The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the lives of millions of working people and our families, and CAPE is working tirelessly to limit the impact of this crisis on our health and livelihoods.

Our CAPE President, Carlos Clayton, and CAPE General Counsel, Blaine Meek, have a standing weekly meeting with the County CEO and LA County Leadership to ensure the issues and concerns of CAPE members are addressed at the highest level and as a result we were able secure the latest safety achievements:

Face Masks

The County has released new guidelines from the Department of Public Health regarding face masks. The County believes that face masks will help protect employees and have released a chart to help decide which level of face mask would be best to use.

Even more, the County will issue two washable face masks in the near future. If you choose to use other face masks please keep in mind that a cloth face mask may be factory-made, sewn by hand or can be improvised from household items such as scarfs, T-shirts, sweatshirts, or towels.

Child Care for Essential Workers

Great news for parents who are deemed “essential employees.”  Last week, Gov. Newsom issued an executive order that makes it easier for preschools, family childcare homes, school districts, after-school programs and others to provide childcare for these essential workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

Daycares can now remain open, but only for children of parents working in essential sectors. Babysitters may also come to the house to care for minors of parents working in essential sectors.
