Together, We Rebuild, Support, and Fight for Our Future

In the aftermath of the devastating California wildfires, we find ourselves grappling with a profound sense of loss and resilience. Many in our CAPE family have faced unimaginable hardships as homes and livelihoods were reduced to ashes.

To those directly impacted, please know that CAPE stands with you. We are committed to being a resource of support in every way we can. You are not alone—our union, our colleagues, and our community are here to lift you up as we navigate this difficult time.

We also want to commend the extraordinary efforts of our members who, through their professional roles or who have volunteered to serve as Disaster Services Workers, are aiding in the recovery and rebuilding of our communities. Your work makes a difference every single day, and in moments of crisis, your dedication shines even brighter. Your selflessness and commitment embody the very spirit of solidarity that defines our union.

As we rebuild and heal together, we must also continue the vital work of securing a stronger future for all CAPE members. Our union’s mission remains steadfast, and our resolve has only grown stronger. This week, we are re-energized as we return to the negotiating table to work towards a contract that delivers real improvements for every one of us. A strong contract is one of the best ways we can ensure stability, fairness, and opportunity for all members, especially during times of uncertainty.

The theme for our contract campaign, "Together," resonates now more than ever. We have witnessed firsthand how union members, working families, and everyday Angelenos are coming together in the wake of these wildfires to provide hope, help, and healing. This unity inspires us to keep pushing forward—to ensure that our collective voice is heard and our collective strength is felt.

Together, we will make it through these challenging times. Together, we fight for fairness and progress. And together, we will win a brighter future for all CAPE members and the communities we serve.

Please stay safe and take care of one another. If you need assistance or resources, do not hesitate to reach out to CAPE. We are here for you.

In solidarity,

Carlos Clayton, P.E.

President, California Association of Professional Employees (CAPE)
