Candidate’s Statement:

I’m Lisa Andres and I serve as CAPE’s Vice-President.

Friends, coworkers, and colleagues: The pandemic, and our fight against a callous and uncaring County, is not over yet.

The Board of Supervisors still meet remotely, but they won’t tell our Department heads and managers to stop recalling us into the office instead of allowing those who have been safely and productively teleworking for the past 2 ½ years to continue. And this despite multiple COVID outbreaks happening in work locations severe enough to report to LA County Public Health.

This year, we are bargaining at both salary and fringe benefits contract tables. The CAPE Board made endorsements meant to give us any edge we could find while bargaining. We’ve seen the Board of Supervisors give generously to their constituents in the form of social safety net programs, understandable because of so many people in need. But we’re in need, too. And not all of us can afford to live in LA County due to cost of living versus sub-par salaries, making us ineligible to apply for County financial relief. As employees, our County leaders have abandoned us as they make insulting offers across the bargaining table while we endure crushing inflation. It’s demoralizing, but we are by no means defeated. We fight for every member, collectively.

I humbly ask for your vote so I may continue our work with negotiations and to serve you over the next two years. I appreciate your time and consideration.

In Solidarity,

Lisa Andres
