Candidate’s Statement:
Hello, my name is Kim Yapp. I’m an associate civil engineer at Department of Public
Works and I am running for election to the CAPE Board.
I was a member of the bargaining team for the last contract. The negotiations were
tough and the CAPE membership really came together to show management that we
were strong and united.
If elected, my goal will be to continue this momentum to protect, maintain and improve
our wages, benefits and working conditions. I will do this by listening to the
membership’s priorities and concerns and using this feedback to inform my CAPE
Board duties.
I have over 30 years of experience at various public agencies in environmental science,
civil engineering and management positions. As such, I have been a member of many
different unions and management associations throughout my career including: IBEW
Local 18 (LADWP), Engineer’s and Architects Association (Port of Los Angeles),
Pasadena Management Association (PWP) and Burbank Management Association
(BWP). I have participated in CAPE contract negotiations and served on the
engineering salary negotiation committee at the Los Angeles County Sanitation
Districts.
My diverse experience brings a broad perspective to my union activities. I’m excited
about this opportunity and thank you for your consideration.
