  • Department: Office of the Assessor
  • Classification: Appraiser Specialist I
  • County Employment Years: 10.5
  • CAPE Member Years: 10.5

Candidate’s Statement:

I am seeking a third term on the CAPE Board because I believe there is a lot of work to do towards improving working conditions, compensation, continuing education, and quality of life for all CAPE members. I think the best way to do so is by listening to members' concerns, educating members about their rights and options, and strategizing about the future -we need to turn discussion and discourse into action!

Over the last four years, I have sat on the CAPE Executive Committee, Unit 131/132 Bargaining Team, CAPE Political Endorsement Committee, and Los Angeles Federation of Labor's House of Labor. I have also been a part of the Strength & Spirit, Political Action, and Community Service delegate committees. I have also taken 16 credits worth of Labor Studies classes at Los Angeles Trade & Technical College.

I am a mid-career professional who previously worked as a city planner alongside building inspectors, traffic engineers, and other public sector professionals at three Southern California cities. I have served on the Board of professional organizations such as the International Association of Assessment Officers (IAAO), the American Planning Association (APA), and the Association of Environmental Professionals (AEP). I believe this experience has helped me understand the challenges facing current members and professionals looking towards a career in public service.

Thank you for the consideration! In Solidary, Kelly M. Koldus
