CAPE Bargaining Unit Tentative Agreements Achieved!

After several late-night bargaining sessions, the CAPE Negotiating Teams reached Tentative Agreements with Los Angeles County representatives earlier this month on new three-year CAPE Bargaining Unit contracts for CAPE members. The new contracts include the following salary and working condition gains, among other enhancements:

• 10% total across-the-board pay increases for all CAPE Bargaining Unit members within 2 years, 6 months of the start of the new contracts:

3% effective October 1, 2015*
3% effective October 1, 2016
2% effective October 1, 2017
2% effective April 1, 2018
*Retroactive to October 1, 2015

Salary Inequity Re-opener - CAPE members from the Engineering Technicians and Professional Engineers Non-Supervising and Supervising Bargaining Units may re-submit their 2015 salary inequity claims to the County in 2016, along with any additional supporting information, for reconsideration by the CEO

New Contracting Out Language - New language enables CAPE to raise concerns regarding DPW's contracting practices before RFPs go to the Board of Supervisors AND creates a Joint Labor-Management Committee at DPW on contracting out, with CEO participation to ensure productive discussions and resolution.

New CAPE Safety Equipment Provisions at DPW & DRP - Provides annual cost reimbursement for CAPE Bargaining Unit 511 & 512 field employees at DPW and Regional Planning Departments for the cost of their work boots.

New Language for Assessor employees - Establishes a process to work collaboratively with the Department to increase entry-level pay for Appraisers and create a new SBE audit-qualified bonus for appraisal staff.

CAPE members will get to vote-by-mail soon regarding the terms of your CAPE Bargaining Unit Contract Tentative Agreements. Additional details of the Tentative Agreements will be included with your vote materials. Please be sure to read your vote materials carefully, mark your ballot, and return it in the envelope provided to ensure your voice is heard.
