The new year is here, and the work ahead will determine the strength and stability of our next contract.
That’s why we want to share a clear update on where bargaining stands, and where we’re headed together.
Here’s the headline: We are in the final stages of negotiations, and CAPE is actively working to make sure the contract we bring home is strong, secure, and worthy of the professionalism you bring to LA. County every day.

Protecting Our Raises
Over the past several weeks, CAPE leadership has been deeply engaged through the Coalition of County Unions (CCU) addressing one of the most serious unresolved issues at the table: the County’s proposed salary claw-back language.
This language is dangerous because it would allow County management to unilaterally take back any negotiated raises if they see fit without any discussion or safeguards. CAPE members’ solidarity, together with CCU coordination, has made clear that these issues must be resolved.
Let’s be clear: we are working to ensure that any salary gains we negotiate cannot simply be erased later at the County’s discretion. That protection matters – not just for this contract, but for every contract that follows.

Momentum Built by Unity: Fringe Contract Victory
This movement didn’t happen by accident. It happened because CAPE members have stayed engaged, informed, and together.
We know that unity delivers results. Last year, CAPE and our CCU brothers and sisters were the first to secure our Fringe Benefits Contract, expanding and protecting benefits for members across the County. Read the full details of the Fringe Benefits Contract here.
New Benefit Coming January 2026: Countywide 401(k) Savings Plan
- Beginning January 2, 2026, eligible CAPE members will gain access to a new County 401(k) Savings Plan, in addition to the existing 457(b).

Let’s Bring This Contract Home
We’re at a critical point and the remaining issues - including salary protections and Telework - will determine whether this contract truly delivers long-term stability and respect for CAPE members and all professional workers.
It’s important that we stay engaged, keep talking with coworkers, and continue showing the County that CAPE members are united until the very end.
Strong contracts aren’t simply handed out - they’re secured through strength, consistency, and solidarity.
We are close. And together, we can finish this strong.
