Bargaining Update: Message from the CAPE President

I want to update you on where things stand in our contract negotiations.

Over the last few weeks, all CAPE Bargaining Unit Teams met with County management in our latest round of negotiations. Our teams showed up prepared, engaged, and unified in representing the work you do every day to keep Los Angeles County running.

And that’s exactly why this moment is so frustrating.

After more than a year of bargaining, the path to a deal is clear. The remaining issues are not insurmountable. They are solvable. What’s missing right now is the urgency and focused engagement from County leadership needed to bring this across the finish line.

CAPE is ready to close this contract.

We know many of you are tired. You’re ready for the bonus, ready for certainty, and ready to move forward. You’ve continued to deliver for this County through every challenge, and you deserve a contract that reflects that commitment. But contracts don’t close on readiness alone. They close when there is real movement at the table.

That’s why our unity right now matters more than ever.

Next Steps: Let's Bring This Contract Home

We also now have our next bargaining session scheduled for Units 131/132 on Tuesday, April 14. We are actively working to schedule upcoming sessions for Units 501/502 and 511/512 and expect to have those dates confirmed soon.

As we push to bring this contract home, we’re asking all members to stand together in visible solidarity. When you’re in the office, wear your CAPE gear or CAPE blue. Let management see, clearly and consistently, that CAPE members are engaged, united, and paying attention.

This is how we show the County we’re ready and united to finish this now.

We will continue to keep you informed as things progress. In the meantime, thank you for everything you do and for continuing to stand strong with your fellow CAPE members.

We’re close.

Let’s bring this contract home.

Together.

In unity,

Lisa AndresPresident, California Association of Professional Employees (CAPE), AFL-CIO
