We often hear the saying, "Health is wealth," and it couldn't be truer.

We are a successful and thriving union, but a strong contract means little if members aren’t aware of our rights in the workplace and empowered to exercise them.

CAPE's lobbyist in Sacramento, Tim Yaryan, sent Sen. Mike McGuire, the chair of the state's Senate Governance and Finance Committee, a letter on behalf of the union urging him to vote "aye" on AB 1250 when it comes before his committee.

AB 1250 is an act to add a section to the Government Code regarding counties contracts for personal services, aka "contracting out."

The CAPE office will be closed on Tuesday, July 4 for the Independence Day holiday.

We will be open on Monday, July 3. And our office will reopen after the holiday on July 5.

Have a safe and happy Fourth of July!

Summer is coming!

Planning an epic vacation or a weekend getaway? Bring CAPE on Vacation with you!

We want to collect photos of our members representing CAPE - wearing CAPE t-shirts, hoodies, baseball caps and more while on vacation to fabulous spots around the world.

Here's how it works:

CAPE works hard to ensure our members interests are represented fairly, not only by elected county officials, but state representatives as well.

CAPE recently sent letters to California state legislators regarding two key items that affect our membership. We wanted to keep you up-to-date and encourage you to contact your state senators regarding them.

Are you working on a special project or assignment with a higher level of responsibility or performing duties that are usually reserved for employees in a higher classification?

Then you may be entitled to a bonus!

CAPE negotiated a means for you to receive a two standard salary levels (approximately 5.5%) bonus if you have been assigned a special project or assignment or are performing duties that are reserved for employees in higher classification.

To highlight the professional opportunities available for students and graduates available through Los Angeles County, CAPE is sponsoring a $2,500 scholarship for engineering students at Cal State University Los Angeles and a $2,500 scholarship for students enrolled in CSUN's Urban Studies and Planning program.

Over the last two decades, the Board of Supervisors has continuously expanded the County’s ability to use an employee’s criminal history to deny promotions or transfers, leaving employees with little recourse to prove that his or her criminal record will not impact future career opportunities. Specifically, the County’s policy did not contain language allowing for “Appeal Rights.” Although not stated as the policy, upon being notified of disqualification of a promotion or transfer the employee could request and receive the basis for the decision to disqualify him or her.
